Julia Mintzer made her UK debuts onstage as Carmen with Welsh National Opera and offstage with two Off West End Nominations for her productions of Bluebeard’s Castle and Der Vampyr with Gothic Opera; for which she has been nominated for 2 Off West End Awards for Best Opera Production. Her production of Savitri for Hampstead Garden Opera was the first fully staged opera in London since the start of the pandemic, hailed as “dignified and rewarding” by Opera Magazine and for its '“sensitive direction that traded in closeness and distance” by The Times. A 2017 National Opera Association Directing Fellow, her interactive theater piece Pizza Parlance was listed in Nombre Art Magazine's "5 Must-Sees of Venice Biennale" and revived for NWR-Forum Düsseldorf Düsseldorf and the Toronto Museum of Contemporary Art
Julia has also sung leading roles with Washington National Opera, the Dresden Semperoper, and the Glimmerglass Festival, and directed and developed new performances at the Venice Biennale, the Helsinki Festival, and Toronto Museum of Contemporary Art. She is a member of the Royal Opera House’s pilot Mentorship Programme as a director.
Julia graduated from The Juilliard School and the Boston University Opera Institute. Julia holds a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa in the United Kingdom.
